Registration is now open for Deadwood History Archaeology Camp

DEADWOOD, S.D. – Come out and dig up some history with the Deadwood History, Inc. and the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission. They will host a week-long Archaeology Camp for area youth.  Two sessions are available: June 6-10 or June 13-17, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Camp starts and concludes at the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center and archaeology work will be conducted at the Pearson family property assisting a professional archaeologist. Archaeology Camp is for students going into grades 4-6 and the cost is $45 for members and $55 for non-members.

This experiential camp will focus on site history, the restoration process of an on-site cabin, and the importance of archaeology. Lessons in orienteering, mapping, and cataloging artifacts will be conducted. Students should be prepared to work in the dirt, hike, and be outside all day.

For more information or to register for summer camp, please contact Deadwood History Executive Director Carolyn Weber at 605-722-4800. Scholarships are available. The camps fill up quickly, so please reserve your space today.
