Regional Health to open new Heart and Vascular Unit

RAPID CITY, S.D. — On Wednesday, Regional Health Rapid City Hospital will open its new Heart and Vascular Unit.

The new unit is above the emergency department, and as of now, it is an inpatient center.

There are 32 rooms equipped with new medical equipment and a sleeping space for family members.

“Nobody wants to be in the hospital, it’s a stressful, scary experience but we wanted to make it as comfortable as possible for our patients and their families,” said Jake Kleinschmidt a nursing director.

Nursing stations are placed in between the rooms, and the stations have windows where they can see into the rooms. This makes it easier to check on patients while working.

The Heart and Vascular Unit is expected to transition into a full wing in 2020. The wing will include an outpatient care center.
