RCPD searching for driver of stolen car who fled accident

RAPID CITY S.D. – Police in Rapid City are searching for a person who they believe stole a car and crashed it on Easter Sunday.


8:00 p.m. Saturday

According to a post on Facebook from Nachigall’s Greenhouse in Rapid City, the van involved in the crash was stolen from their parking lot on Saturday.

Police continue to investigate the crash and who stole the van.



According to Sgt. Chris Hunt with the Rapid City Police Department, authorities were called to the scene of a traffic collision around 3:20 p.m. The accident happened at the intersection of 44th and West Chicago Streets.

Police say when the accident happened, one of the drivers fled the scene on foot. The other driver sustained minor injuries.

When police arrived and began investigating the incident, they determined the vehicle was stolen on Saturday night. According to Sgt. Hunt, police can’t disclose which vehicle was stolen because of Marsy’s Law.

At this time, police are still searching for the driver of the stolen vehicle who fled on foot.

The Rapid City Police Department, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Rapid City Fire Department all responded to the crash.

Police continue to investigate the crash and the stolen vehicle.
