RCPD responds to 3 armed robberies in an hour

RAPID CITY, SD — Rapid City Police Department officers were called to three separate reports of armed robbery within the span of an hour on Monday afternoon.

According to authorities, around 2:50 p.m., police were called to Walmart on Stumer Road for a report of a subject who had just threatened an employee with a knife. On arrival, officers spoke with the employee who said he saw an unknown male subject attempting to leave the store without showing a receipt. As the employee inquired about the man’s receipt, the unknown male produced a knife.

The employee backed away, and the suspect fled the store and got into an unknown vehicle waiting on the roadway. The suspect is described as a skinny Caucasian male in his early 20s, standing 5’10”.

Then around 3:00 p.m., police were called to the Boyd’s Pharmacy on East Saint Patrick Street for a panic alarm. On arrival police began speaking to witnesses who said an unknown male entered the business, approached the pharmacy counter, displayed a firearm, and demanded prescription medication. The employees complied and the man exited the store before fleeing in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, about 50 years in age with black hair wearing a brown jacket, Denver Broncos ball cap, and a yellow surgical mask.


At around 3:50 p.m., police were dispatched to the Rushmore Mall for a robbery that had just occurred at Knife Worx. Officers made entrance to the mall and worked with mall security to secure the other storefronts as police worked to investigate the robbery. Officers entered Knife Worx and searched for the suspect. No one was located in the store.

Police were then informed that the store employee had fled the store during the robbery and called police from a different storefront in the mall.

After making contact with the store employee, police determined that an unknown male subject and entered Knife Worx, brandished a handgun, and demanded money from the employee. The employee complied before fleeing the store. It’s believed the suspect exited out the store’s rear entrance before he fled the scene.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male with a skinny build, approximately 20 – 25 years of age, standing around 5’10” in height, wearing a black sweater, black hat, and a black bandana over his face.


At this time the RCPD has no suspects in these robberies in custody. Anyone with information related to any of these robberies is encouraged to contact police at 394-4131.
