UPDATE: Victim in Memorial Park drowning incident dies

UPDATE (8:12 p.m.): The RCPD has reported that the drowning victim has died. The incident is now being investigated as a homicide.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Shortly before 7 p.m., the Rapid City Police Department, and Rapid City Fire and medical units, responded to reports of a man holding another man down in the water at Memorial Park.

The City/County water rescue team also responded to the scene to aid in pulling the victim from the water.

An ambulance arrived to transport the victim from the scene.

The police say a suspect has been taken into custody.

RCPD is aware of a nearby event that took place during the incident and are asking that any witnesses contact them by calling 605-394-4131.
