4 suspects arrested following gun-related incident at Rapid City motel

UPDATE (6:38 p.m.) — More information has become available surrounding the details of an incident that attracted heavy police presence at the Price Motel in Rapid City.

According to Sgt. Hunt of the RCPD, law enforcement received a call to their administrative office from a woman who said a man had put a gun to her head in an apartment at the Price Motel on East North Street.

The woman fled the apartment and set off walking. Police could not track her exact location because she didn’t call 911. When they arrived at the scene they spotted Austin Bennett, 22, of Rapid City, who has an active warrant.

Bennett took off running and officers chased him on foot. They attempted to tase him, but the taser was ineffective. Officers then worked to physically subdue Bennett, and at one point say he tried to reach for the taser. He was eventually placed under arrest.

Meanwhile, three other men were found at the motel apartment inside a Nissan passenger car. Police arrested Dylan Gimbel, 20, Tristan McLaughlin, 20, and Joseph Reginelli, 35, all of Rapid City.

Reginelli faces possession of a controlled substance charges and a parole hold. Gimbel and McLaughlin are facing possession of a controlled substance charges.

Bennett is charged with resisting arrest, obstructing justice, simple assault on law-enforcement and possession of a controlled substance.

A firearm was recovered during the incident that had been stolen out of Meade County.

Police are still on the scene gathering statements from witnesses and the reporting party. There were no injuries to the police officer aside from a skinned knee.


 

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Police Department is investigating an incident in the area of East North Street after a suspect allegedly pointed a gun at someone at Auto Zone.

Rapid City Police were called to an area of East North Street near the Price Motel Wednesday evening to investigate. According to RCPD spokesman, Brendan Medina, police came into contact with a suspect during the investigation and a physical altercation ensued. It is unclear the nature of the altercation.

Medina says everyone involved was in custody around 5:00 p.m. but could not confirm the number of individuals arrested.
