UPDATE: (2:41 p.m.) – Around 11 a.m., officers received a call to the 500 block of East Van Buren Street for a report of a man outside pointing a long gun at himself outside of residence.
Law enforcement negotiated with the individual for a couple hours until 2:30 p.m. The individual was then taken into custody.
Public safety has been restored and roads will be open soon. No injuries or threats were reported.
RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Police Department Special Response Team and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office has responded to the 500 block of East Van Buren Street.
Per a tweet from the Rapid City Police Department, law enforcement is evacuating residences and has blocked roads. The public is asked to use alternative routes.
