RCFD responds to two suspicious fires within 20 minutes
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Around 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday, the Rapid City Fire Department responded to a grass fire in the 1500 block of Kellogg Place.
Upon arrival, crews noticed four different ignition areas. Engine 4-1 was able to extinguish the fire; it only burned about 10 feet of grass.
As crews finished up, another call for a grass fire was received at 201 East Minnesota Street. Brush 4 arrived on scene shortly after 5 p.m., however the fire was already out. They cleaned up that scene as well and noticed a two foot-by-two foot area of burned grass.
The incidents are under investigation, but it does appear that both fires were started by juveniles.
It’s important to note that we are still in dry conditions and a high to very high fire danger. Be careful when you are outdoors and be aware of these conditions. If you see something, say something.
