Milehigh Fire

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City home is a total loss after a fire tore through the back side of the house.

Just before 1:30 Monday afternoon, fire fighters were dispatched to the 4000 block of Milehigh Avenue on the north side of town.

Flames and black smoke was reported as coming from the back deck but quickly spread to the rafters and attic. Firefighters quickly stopped the progress, and had to pull out much of the ceiling and attic to completely stop the fire.

Firefighters saved one cat from the home. The cat was put on oxygen and returned to the family. No one was injured.

The home is a loss and the fire remains under investigation.
