One dead, one injured in I-90 crash

Ages of drivers released, names being withheld; Exit 60 eastbound I-90 remains closed


5:56 p.m. The driver of the passenger vehicle has been identified as a 64-year-old female, who received fatal injuries. The driver of the semi-truck has been identified as a 53-year-old male, who received minor injuries. The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reports that both were wearing seatbelts.

The S.D. Highway Patrol has confirmed that the semi-truck was traveling westbound on Interstate 90, when it veered into the median and into oncoming eastbound traffic. It then collided with the passenger vehicle.

Names of the people involved are being withheld pending notification of kin. Charges are pending against the driver of the semi-truck.

The Exit 60 eastbound exit remains closed at this time.

11:31 a.m. Rapid City Fire Department resources are clear of the scene. Rapid City Police Department and South Dakota Highway Patrol remain on scene to continue their investigation.

10:56 a.m. Rapid City Fire Department reports a serious crash involving a Semi vs. vehicle which resulted in the semi rolled over, completely blocking exit 60 on Interstate 90; directly in front of Rushmore Crossing.

Those involved in the accident were attended to by paramedics and RCFD reported the need to extricate at least one individual from their vehicle.

Authorities have confirmed one fatality associated with the crash, they are not currently identifying the identity of the victim or which vehicle the deceased was in at the time of the accident.

All responding agencies are asking motorists in the area to choose an alternate route. If you need to be in the area, be aware there are expected delays. Do not stop your vehicle and impede traffic further and increase the risk for another accident.

9:30 a.m. The Rapid City Fire Department is responding to a serious crash on Interstate 90, mile marker 60 near East North Street.
