RCFD responds to grass fire off of LaCrosse Street

RAPID CITY, S.D. – At around 12:45 p.m. Monday, Rapid City Fire Department was dispatched to a grass fire off of LaCrosse Street. The fire was behind several restaurants in the area, on a patch of dry grass.

When crews first arrived, the main concern was containing the fire, which was threatening a nearby structure, power lines, and a communication box.

Within about ten minutes RCFD stopped the forward spread of the fire, and from there proceed to oust it.

A tree was torched and .14 acre of land was charred, but no one was injured. RCFD can confirm that the fire was cause by people, but cannot confirm whether it was started intentionally.
