RCFD responds to fire in Fountain Springs area

Rapid City, S.D. — The Rapid City Fire Department responded to a fire in the Fountain Springs area off of Deadwood Avenue on Tuesday morning.

It was originally reported as a dumpster fire but turned out to be a trash pile between two businesses.

A driver for Kieffer Sanitation was on a routine garbage pick-up run when he saw smoke and flames coming from the back of his truck.

He found a safe place to dump the garbage and emergency crews were called.

Rapid City firefighters eventually put out the flames.

No one was injured and the surrounding businesses did not have to be evacuated.

“Everyone did the right thing from the businesses in here,” said RCFD Battalion Chief Jimmy Massey. “They stayed far away from that and allowed us to get in and do our job”

As of Tuesday evening, the cause of the fire was still undetermined.
