RCFD responds to early morning structure fire

Rapid City, S.D. – The Rapid City Fire Department was dispatched to the 1500 block of East Saint Patrick Street for a structure fire shortly before 6:30 Wednesday morning.

RCFD Medic 4 was on their way to a separate call, when they noticed smoke coming from a trailer court and were the first to call it in.

Smoke could be seen miles before arriving on scene. Upon the arrival of firefighters, the trailer was fully engulfed in flames.

First arriving units began to attack the fire, which was threatening three other buildings. The trailer to the front of the fully ingulfed trailer had caught fire and the trailer behind it had smoke damage. A vehicle out front had also caught fire, along with nearby field where a small grass fire had been sparked. The three affected homes were evacuated.

Crews responding included: Battalion Chief 1, Engine 4, Engine 6, Truck 1, Squad 1 and Medic 4. Crews remained on scene for overhaul, which included removing floors and ceilings to make sure the fire was completely out.

There were no injuries reported. A fire investigator was called to the scene and the cause remains under investigation.
