RCFD reacts to opening of new Regional Health Rapid City Emergency Department

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Regional Health Rapid City Hospital opened up their new Emergency Department Wednesday morning.

The new facility will be twice the size of the old one and offer up a lot of new features that will not only be good for patients, and hospital staff, but also to first responders.

Chief Jason Culberson with the RCFD’s Medical Operation Division says that the six new E.R. bays that have been built will allow them to drive their ambulances straight through without having to waste time by turning around. But that’s not all they look forward to.

“We really are looking forward to the large new trauma bays and the resuscitation rooms inside the emergency room, right inside the door. Quick access for our crews and for the patient. And some nice things that have happened in there. They’ve added in a lounge room for us to be able to get some water, some quick cups of coffee until we go out o the next call. Just a lot of great additions in that department,” said Chief Culberson.

He adds that Regional Health found a number of ways to make sure the community, the patients they see and the first responders they work with are all taken care of with this new emergency department.
