RCFD investigates fire overnight, possibly related to recent string of suspicious fires

RAPID CITY, S.D. — After a string of suspicious fires in Rapid City earlier this month, the Fire Department is investigating another fire they believe could be related.

Just before four in the morning on New Years Eve, firefighters were called out to 1018 11th street for a report of a fire alarm.

When crews arrived, they found boxes stacked in an entryway that were on fire, but a sprinkler head was activated and already extinguished the fire.

According to the investigator with the Rapid City Fire Department, the fire does appear to be similar to the previous fires in the area.

On December 5th and 6th, the department responded to four dumpster fires in six hours – two on 11th street, one on Mount Rushmore Road, and another on South Street.

One of those fires spread to a nearby garage, destroying a vehicle inside.
