RCFD in search of Firefighter EMT recruits

Applications to serve one of the biggest departments in the state are being accepted until May 21.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Fire Department is look to bring additional Firefighter EMT Recruits to its staff.

Applications to serve one of the biggest departments in the state are being accepted until May 21.

A written remote online test will take place on June 4. After that, physical standard testing will take place with a tentative start date to be in fall of 2021.

RCFD hasn’t set a number for the amount of positions it’s looking to hire, but they say there’s no end to the possibilities you can get into.

“They not only go out to the regular calls, they’re also a specialty, like Station 6 is HAZMAT, Station 3 is Water Rescue, so once you’re in the department, you really get a feel for the things that you probably like more than others and then you have the opportunity to pursue those things a little bit more,” said Tessa Jaeger, the Public Information Officer for the Rapid City Fire Department.
