RCFD extinguishes garage fire on Holcomb Avenue

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Fire Department was dispatched to the 700 block of Holcomb Avenue shortly after 1 p.m. for a structure fire.

A neighbor had called 911 to report seeing smoke and flames coming from the garage on Holcomb Avenue.

As crews approached the scene, they could see smoke from blocks away, and once they arrived on scene, they noticed a 20×20 residential detached garage completely engulfed in flames. The flames were threatening nearby homes.

Crews also noticed an electrical line was down, so Black Hills Energy was called to help with the live wire.

Truck 1 initiated attack of the blaze and was able to extinguish the fire. The garage is reported to be a total loss.

A small grass fire was also put out in the backyard, but the fire did not travel to the home, and siding on the neighbor’s house got scorched from the flames.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Rapid City Fire Department.
