RCFD assisting Rapid Valley VFD with grassland fire near Old Folsom Road
PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. — The Rapid City Fire Department is assisting the Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department with a large grassland fire near the intersection of Old Folsom Road and Lamb Road.
Pennington County Fire Administrator, Jerome Harvey says there is no known cause for the fire, but machinery may have been the cause.
The fire is 90 percent contained, and the forward progress of the fire has been stopped. Firefighters are in mop up at this time.
Approximately 71 acres have been burned, and there were reportedly flames that reached three feet high.
Harvey also said that the fire was “very much a wind driven fire.”
