RCAS warns parents of illegal TikTok trend

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Area Schools are warning parents and guardians of a new TikTok trend that could lead to legal consequences.

A new TikTok trend called “Devious licks” has students across the nation stealing random items from their schools. The items could be anything, including small items like soap dispensers to larger items like computers and other classroom equipment.

“This trend has impacted several schools in the Rapid City area,” writes Community Relations Manager Katy Urban in an email.

These “pranks” of damaging, defacing, and taking school property are actually considered a criminal act that comes with serious consequences and multiple students have already been arrested.

RCAS and local law enforcement are asking for parents and guardians to speak with their students about this trend and explain the consequences of participating in it.
