RCAS needs volunteers to make PPE for band and choir students

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Area Schools is asking the public for help in order to bring some normalcy to the upcoming school year.

Extracurricular activities, such as marching band and choir, are part of the school experience, but with COVID-19 schools are forced to make adjustments.

RCAS will require choir students to wear masks while they sing, but not just your average mask. The masks need to be wide enough for them to fully articulate and expand their jaws wide enough to sing.

Band students will need to cover pieces of their instruments, and the schools need help creating “bell covers.”

It’s a nylon covering that covers the bell of certain instruments, like trumpets, trombones, tubas, and more.

The district will need approximately a thousand or more bell covers for the students.

If you are interested in helping create the covers you can reach out to Rapid City Area School District via phone at (605)394-5147 or social media.
