RAPID CITY, S.D. — Multiple school districts, including Rapid City Area Schools and Custer School District have announced closures due to rising COVID cases, influenza and other winter illnesses, as well as staff shortages.

Black Hawk Elementary, Canyon Lake Elementary and Rapid Valley Elementary, North Middle School and South Middle School will have all students, including special education students, learning remotely Friday, January 14.

The Custer School District announced they will not have school Monday, January 17.

“Our schools and district programs are being impacted by COVID, Influenza and other winter illnesses. I am in communication with our school leaders and am monitoring daily on a case by case basis. Our staff have been absolutely amazing in stepping up and filling in for teachers and other staff who are out.” said Rapid City School Superintendent Dr. Lori Simon.

Douglas Schools announced early Thursday that they would go to Phase 2 learning next week.
