RC Rush open the playoffs with win over Allen

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Kelly Cup Playoffs are underway in the ECHL and the Rapid City Rush are one of 16 teams in the league to qualify for the postseason.

In fact, the Rush are in the playoffs for the first time in seven years.

The Rush opened the playoffs on Friday at home with a win over the Allen Americans, 3-2.

With the game tied at two late in the third period, Max Coatta carried the puck to the high slot.

He let loose a snap shot that was deflected by Brett Gravelle and past Luke Peressini giving the Rush the lead for good.

Lukas Parik set aside 32 out of 34 shots for the Rush.

The game was briefly delayed in the third period when a nearby lightning strike caused a power surge that shut off a portion of the lights in the arena.

Rapid City now takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Game two is scheduled for Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at the Monument Ice Arena.
