RC Invitational Tennis Tournament underway: Raiders capture Flight 2 Doubles crown

The Rapid City Invitational Tennis Tournament kicked off on Friday at the Sioux Park and the Parkview Tennis Courts.

This year’s tournament features several of the top teams from across the state including top-ranked Sioux Falls O‘Gorman, No. 3 Rapid City Stevens and 5th ranked Mitchell.

The first day of the tournament featured doubles competition.

Jamison Pfingston and Jackson Ellis from Rapid City Stevens defeated Matthew Schmitz and Carson Mork of Brandon Valley in the Flight 1 semifinals, 6-2, 6-2.

However, Pfingston and Ellis lost to Cade Damgaard and Wil McDowell from Sioux Falls O’Gorman in the championship match, 4-6, 6-1, 10-8.

Meanwhile, Michael Yousef and Zach Ridl from O’Gorman outlasted Will Raymond and Jake Berzina from St. Thomas More in the Flight 2 semifinals, 6-0, 6-4.

But Rapid City Stevens captured the Flight 2 title, as Ben Anderson and Dawson Segrist defeated Yousef and Ridl, 6-3, 6-4.

Aberdeen Roncalli won the Flight 3 doubles title.

Colton Hellwig and Spencer Titus defeated Mitchell’s Alex Bergeson and Garret Johnson in the finals, 6-4, 6-0.

The tournament wraps up on Saturday afternoon with the singles finals.
