Rapid Valley VFD contains structure fire Friday night

RAPID VALLEY, S.D. — The Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire around 10:22 p.m. Friday night in the 2300 block of Bradsky Road.

The firefighters faced challenging conditions such as icy roads, freezing temperatures, freezing hose lines, low lighting, and a lack of a water supply that forced water to be hauled to the fire in tenders.

The fire was contained to the structure and no injuries to civilians were reported. One firefighter suffered a fall and was transported to Rapid City Monument Hospital for further evaluation.

Despite no injuries being reported, two cats remain missing.

The Red Cross Serving Central and Western South Dakota, and the Black Hills Fire Chaplains Association are assisting the occupants of the home.
