Rapid Ride to offer free bus rides for school-aged children

RAPID CITY, S.D. — For the fifth school year in a row, Rapid Ride is offering free rides for school-aged kids.

Rapid Ride provides public transportation on six fixed routes, including most of the schools.

Rapid Transit manager Megan Gould says there will be some changes in the Youth Ride Free program this school year.

  • Drivers and passengers will be required to wear masks on the buses.
  • Social distancing protocols will be followed when possible.

Gould admits the number of passengers on certain routes at certain times of the school day will make social distancing impossible to enforce.

Passes will not be required this school year, but parents or guardians must register their child with Rapid Transit by calling them.
