Rapid City woman charged with 2nd degree murder after stabbing husband during argument

RAPID CITY, S.D. — 34-year-old Ashley Peltier has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of her husband, James Steven Rice.

Peltier called the police on Tuesday, June 8 around 10:30 p.m. and admitted to stabbing Rice during an argument “to make a point.”

During an interview with authorities, Peltier said she picked up a knife, threatened Rice with it, and stabbed him when he stepped towards her to take the knife away.

Court documents show that Peltier offered no defense for her actions, told investigators she “just snapped,” and said she did not feel threatened by him.

Peltier is being held at the Pennington County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
