Rapid City woman arrested for DUI, aggravated eluding after Sunday evening police chase

RAPID CITY, S.D. — On April 4 around 10 p.m., Rapid City Police saw a silver passenger car eastbound on West Main Street at a high rate of speed. Police attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle did not comply and instead continued eastbound.

The silver vehicle proceeded through the intersection at Main Street and West Boulevard where it struck a green passenger car.

The vehicle then continued east before turning south onto Mt. Rushmore Road.  As the vehicle accelerated, the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

Officers located the vehicle in the area of 3rd Street and Saint Charles. Police observed the vehicle strike a power pole in this area before coming to a stop against a nearby curb.

The suspect driver exited the vehicle and was ordered to stop. She was detained and identified as 27-year-old Monique Randall of Rapid City. Police also learned that the vehicle had previously been reported stolen.

Police noted the smell of alcohol coming from her person. Randall was placed under arrest for DUI, Aggravated Eluding, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Obey a Traffic Signal, Driving Under Suspension, No Proof of Insurance, and a Warrant.

She was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
