RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City woman has been arrested on several charges after driving a pickup truck into a building and attempting to flee the scene Monday morning.

At around 11:30 a.m. on September 27, a police officer in the area of East Boulevard North observed a pickup truck that had apparently crashed through the exterior of the We Care Thrift Store on the 400 block of East Boulevard North.

According to the Rapid City Police Department, the officer observed that the truck was in reverse and the driver was spinning the tires in an attempt to back out of the store. The vehicle was able to back out and continue south toward East New York Street.

Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the parking lot of Time Square Plaza. The driver exited the vehicle and police noted her slurred speech, lack of balance on her feet, and the smell of alcohol coming from her person. Following a DUI investigation, it was determined she was too intoxicated to safely operate a motor vehicle.

The driver was identified as 40-year-old Melissa Wolf Black of Rapid City. She was placed under arrest for DUI (2nd Offense), Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Driving without a License before being transported to the Pennington County Jail.
