Rapid City suspends trolley rides for the season

RAPID CITY, S.D. — If taking a tour on Rapid City’s City View Trolley is on your summer bucket list, your last chance is fast approaching.

The trolley, which is part of the Rapid Transit Service, takes passengers on a narrated tour of Rapid City during the summer season, and stopping at some of the community gems like Dinosaur Park, Storybook Island, and The Chapel in the Hills.

The season starts in the beginning of June and was scheduled to run through August 31. But due to a shortage of drivers and little time to train a replacement it was decided to wrap up the season a little early.

“So with just a few weeks to go, the thought process… By the time we advertise, interview, train, so forth, we’d at best have a few days left in the season,” said Rapid City Communications Coordinator Darrell Shoemaker. “So the decision was made that coupled with the fact, you know, ridership has been down.”

If taking a tour on the trolley is still on your to do list for the season, fear not – there’s still time.

City View will be continuing its normal route through next week with the last day of tours scheduled for Friday, August 6.
