Rapid City Stevens boys lose heartbreaker to Yankton in soccer semifinals

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Stevens boys soccer team hosted the Yankton Bucks on Monday afternoon in the Class ‘A’ semifinals.

The match was originally scheduled for Tuesday.

But was held a day earlier due to the expected inclement weather conditions.

Despite a great effort by both teams, Yankton upset the Raiders, 3-2.

The Bucks jumped out a to a 2-0 lead at halftime.

But Stevens battled back in the second half and tie up at two a piece thanks to goals by Zack Williams and Levi Busching.

Then in the 77th minute with it still tied, Yankton’s Gavin Fortner kicked a routine floater and it bounced off the goalkeeper’s gloves and landed in the net to give the Bucks the lead.

Yankton then held for the victory.

The Raiders finish the season with a 12-3 record.

The Bucks advance to the state finals where they will play either Sioux Falls Washington or Sioux Falls O’Gorman.
