Rapid City Solid Waste to assist in tree limb disposals

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Heavy, wet snow and high, gusting winds have given Rapid City homeowners extra headaches with downed tree limbs and branches on their property.

The City’s Solid Waste Division is encouraging homeowners to bring their extra yard waste to one of the several remote sites located throughout Rapid City. There are multiple options to drop off the yard waste at Fitzgerald Stadium and West Boulevard North or to the Rapid City Landfill, all available for public access 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Solid Waste ScheduleCity officials are reminding the public to place materials inside the large containers and not on the ground.

For curbside collection, homeowners are asked to use disposable yard waste bags with smaller tree branches bundled inside. City trash collection crews will not pick up free-standing debris or piles that are left to the side. Collection of these bags will continue until November 26.

“And we know that this is not just going to be a one day situation,” says Darrell Shoemaker, Rapid City Communications Coordinator. “Again, people may find tree limbs, tree branches falling in their yards here for the next several days.”
