Rapid City Rush leading scorer called up to AHL

RAPID CITY, S.D. –  The leading scorer for the Rapid City Rush has been called up to the American Hockey League.

Rush captain Peter Quenneville is heading to Illinois to play for the Rockford IceHogs.

Quenneville’s call-up comes just 72 hours after he tied a franchise record with four goals in a win against Cincinnati on Friday, Jan. 10.

The forward currently leads the Rush with 45 points in 37 games.

Quenneville was hit in the jaw by a puck in Saturday’s game.

But Rush head coach Daniel Tetrault said x-rays came back negative and there was no fractures.

Quenneville will now have the chance to play with his younger brother, John, who was just assigned to Rockford on Sunday by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Meanwhile, the Rush announced on Monday that goaltender Gordon Defiel has been signed ahead of the team’s Wednesday night showdown against the Wichita Thunder.
