Rapid City Rush hosts third annual “School Day Game”

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Rush, hosted their third annual “School Day Game” Wednesday morning at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

The game against the league-leading Allen Americans, starting at 10-35. The Rush began the “School Day Game” two years ago, along with the Rapid City Area Schools, as reward for grade school students for their success in reading. Hockey is also providing an education all its own.

“It gives them a chance to just get out and explore new avenues and things they haven’t been exposed to before. Some of them have never seen a hockey game. So they’re enjoying this.” Geneva Minick, 3rd grade teacher for Knollwood Elementary School.

The students also enjoyed a lesson in winning, the fourth-place rush shut out first-place Allen, one-nothing. The two teams play again Friday and Saturday nights at the civic center.
