Rapid City Rush adds new teammate, begins training
RAPID CITY, S.D. — As a part of the Rapid City Rush’s veteran appreciation night, the team has brought in a new member of the family.
The team’s newest honorary team member is the golden lab named Rush. The team will share responsibilities in raising and training Rush, teaching him basic commands until he is a bit older. When Rush is old enough, the team will be sending Rush to be trained as a service dog for a veteran.
“And basically this is, it’s kind of taking a page out of the National Hockey League’s book,” says Mark Binneti, Director of Rush Media, “where so many of these teams are starting to adopt a puppy and train it to actually be a dog and then pass it off to later be trained to help out someone in need.”
