Rapid City resident bakes dog treats for an international effort

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A local woman is raising money to help fund an animal shelter she helped build in Romania.

During the four-month long trip, Eva Gallant volunteered with a group to build an animal shelter. Housing close to 200 dogs from Romania and Ukraine — the staff at APAI are working to make sure the animals are cared for.

To help the organization with things such as food and bills, Eva was out at Braeburn May 21-22 selling dog treats, with all proceeds going straight to the shelter.

“You know, you come back from something and see these animals in such need, and the circumstances they find themselves in,” Y-Knot Creations Owner Eva Gallant said. “And having completely recognized what a shoestring budget APAI is working on, I just felt I had to do more.”

Orders for the dog treats can be placed online through her Facebook page, Eva Gallant. She also has pledged to donate 10 percent of the commissions from her art.

Anyone looking to make a donation online can also make one to the group’s PayPal account, asociatiaapai@yahoo.com.
