Rapid City reserves week to honor Public Works employees
RAPID CITY, S.D. — On Tuesday, Rapid City honored the workers who literally keep the city from falling apart, as well as the men and women of Public Works who keep the city upright and moving.
Whether it’s picking up trash, filling a pothole and so much more, the department is always hard at work. On Tuesday, an official proclamation was read during the common council meeting, declaring this week Public Works Week.
Public Works Executive Coordinator Shannon Truax says, “These guys are really the unsung heroes of this community. They are out there day and night, holidays, evenings, weekends — they’re working in some of the hottest coldest, dirtiest conditions. And they are the most dedicated group of people I’ve ever worked with.”
Coming up on Thursday, residents will have a chance to meet with some of the Public Works crew at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at city hall.
