Rapid City Regional Airport preparing for busiest travel time

RAPID CITY — The Rapid City Regional Airport reports a 13.8 percent jump in passengers in April from the same month last year.

That comes to 20,320 passengers last month versus 17,524 a year ago. RAP officials say that the increase and the number of passengers was the airport’s second highest total since 2019 — its record breaking year.

The airport says this time of year is where they see most of their travel.

“We’re really on all-hands-on-deck here,” said Megan Johnson, the marketing air service manager for Rapid City Regional Airport. “We know that between Memorial Day and Labor Day will be our peak time. 50 percent of our year’s travel happens within those three months.”

Johnson says the airport recommends everyone follow the TSA travel guidelines and regulations to ensure a safe travel experience.
