RAPID CITY, S.D. — In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Flood, the Rapid City Public Library will present a new podcast series “Flood of ’72, 50 Years Later” with the first episode debuting Friday, April 1.

The library says they will tell stories of survival and the resilience of a community forced to rebuild after the tragic event that claimed 238 lives. The podcast will also feature firsthand accounts of neighbors and strangers telling their experiences with the flood.

A new episode of the podcast will air every three weeks with the last episode airing on June 3. Podcast episodes can be found at Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts and Stitcher or the library’s website.

The Rapid City Public Library has been collecting written memories, photos, documents, books, studies, and reports related to the flood for more than a decade.

The library’s research and preservation efforts have been digitized and preserved for future generations and can be accessed through the library’s website here.
