Rapid City Police Department release names in Independence Day murder

RAPID CITY, S.D. -The Rapid City Police Department has released the names of the suspect and victim of Monday night’s drowning.

7 5 Drowning Folo Vo00 00 38 21still002The RCPD says the incident happened around 7 p.m. in Memorial Park pond while people were getting set to hear a patriotic concert and watch fireworks. One man held another man under water.

A witness jumped in and helped city and county water rescue teams locate and recover the victim, 43-year-old Sheldon Glenn of Rapid City. Glenn was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Police quickly found the suspect and arrested 27-year-old Walter Mousseau Jr. of Pine Ridge. He’s charged with first degree murder.

Rapid City Police Chief Don Hedrick says, “We’re thankful that we had good folks that stuck around to explain what they saw and what happened. And as a result, we have a very solid case, and I believe we’re going to be able to hold the offender accountable for this brutal crime.”

Police tell NewsCenter1 they believe the two men knew each other. As the investigation continues, RCPD urges anyone with information to call Detective Justin Gizzi at (605) 394-4134.
