Rapid City police identify murder suspect through forensic testing


RAPID CITY, S.D. — As Rapid City police continue to investigate the February 10 murder of 82-year-old Reta McGovern at her home at 821 Flormann Street, police have identified the suspect believed responsible for her death through forensic testing.

Police are currently searching for 45-year-old James Jumping Eagle of Rapid City in connection with McGovern’s homicide. Evidence recovered during the homicide investigation has connected Jumping Eagle to the scene of the murder.

Jumping Eagle is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

Anyone with any information about Jumping Eagle’s whereabouts should contact police immediately at 605-394-4131. An anonymous tip can also be submitted by texting the letters ‘RCPD’ and the information to 847411.
