Rapid City Police Department arrest man for firearms violation

RAPID CITY, S.D. — At around 4:20 a.m. on Nov. 10, Rapid City Police Department officers were dispatched to the intersection of Tallent Street and Elm Avenue for a report of a group of individuals walking down the street checking door handles of vehicles, a common practice by vehicle burglars.

Police located the group and attempted to stop them, but the group ran from the officers. The officers caught up to one of the suspects, a male, and attempted to detain him but he refused to cooperate and was taken to the ground.

RCPD officers recovered the rifle from 21-year-old Nathaniel Hernandez of Sioux Falls Nov. 10.

A loaded rifle fell from the suspect before the officers were able to place him in handcuffs.

The suspect was identified as 21-year-old Nathaniel Hernandez of Sioux Falls and police determined he was on probation.

Hernandez was placed under arrest for possession of a firearm with a prior felony conviction and a probation hold before being transported to the Pennington County Jail.
