Rapid City officials, community participate in city bike ride

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The annual Rapid City Bike Tour took place Saturday morning at Founders Park.

Every year, city planners put on a tour for a roughly seven-mile bike ride around the western part of the city.

Everyone is invited to participate and the goal is to have the bike ride during May, which is National Bike Month and after Bike to Work Week has wrapped up.

City officials say it’s a great kick starter in the morning and the people make it that much better.

“It’s just nice being out in the community and just using this beautiful asset — that we have this lovely greenway that just goes throughout our community, and  just doing this event with our community members and a nice group of people,” said Laura Armstrong from Ward 5 of the Rapid City Council.

The city is also hosting another bike ride on June 8-9 as part of the 50th anniversary of the 1972 flood, starting at 4 p.m.
