Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender speaks with Oglala Sioux Tribe President Kevin Killer

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Mayor Steve Allender meet Monday with Oglala Sioux Tribe President Kevin Killer as they look to build a better working relationship.

Topics of discussion included the need for affordable housing and what options are available, but the main goal was to highlight ways that the tribe and city are similar instead of focusing on differences.

Mayor Allender said, “I think today’s main purpose for the meeting was to recognize, acknowledge that we have a lot of things similar in our jobs and in our responsibilities and to kinda get our minds open to figure out how we can start working together.”

Mayor Allender is planning to attend the OST’s Tribal Council meeting in May and the Mayor also invited Killer to attend a Common Council meeting down the line.
