Rapid City mayor participates in National Library Card Sign-Up Month
RAPID CITY, S.D. – Just as kids are getting back into the groove of school, September has been recognized as National Library Card Sign-Up Month.
Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender even decided he would take part in the month-long celebration. On Wednesday morning, Mayor Allender went to the Rapid City Public Library to get his very own library card in hopes that more people would take advantage of all the great resources that can be found there.
“We have a great facility here. Great library staff who can help with all kinds of services related to libraries, which today, is more than just books. They have a great kids’ section and all types of resources for you. So I just signed up for this card. It’s very simple, very quick and it doesn’t cost anything. And so, I think this is a good deal for us,” said Mayor Allender.
“Well there’s really more to the world than what you find on your laptop computer or your mobile phone and a lot of it exists right here. There’s new advancements in technology and there’s kind of a window to the outside world here. So come on down. It’s free. You pay for it, so why not use it?” he added.
If you sign up for a new library card or renew the one you already have, your name will be put in a drawing for the chance to win some really great prizes. Disney Pixar is the ambassador this year, so the kids’ prizes are a set of a Toy Story 4 figures and then adults have the chance to win a Kindle Fire.
You have all month long to sign up for a new library card or to renew your old one.
