Rapid City man sentenced to 15 years in fatal hit-and-run

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City man involved in a 2018 fatal crash that resulted in the death of a 18-month-old child was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison.

George Matousek, 37, of Rapid City was involved in a car crash in Rapid City at the intersection of East Boulevard and East New York Street on October 5th, 2018.

He was arrested near Spokane, Washington in October 2019, 1 year after fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run accident in October 2018 and was extradited to South Dakota and booked into the Pennington County Jail in February 2020.

He appeared in Pennington County court via closed-circuit television. Seventh Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Connolly sentenced Matousek to 15 years behind bars, instead of the maximum 10 years for the charge of 2nd-degree manslaughter.

Due to the severity of the crime and Matousek’s extensive criminal history the judge felt the maximum sentence was appropriate and he is no eligible for probation.
