Rapid City man claims $200,000 Powerball prize

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Leo Bald Eagle is the latest big winner in South Dakota after claiming his $200,000 Powerball lottery prize Monday.

Bald Eagle’s winning ticket had four out of five winning numbers in addition to the Powerball. Bald Eagle decided to buy his ticket just before leaving town to perform with his country western band Midnight Sun. As he entered the Big D Oil Company on East North Street, Bald Eagle had a change of heart on his routine.

Bald Eagle said, “I normally buy Dakota Cash and Lotto America, but last minute, I had a feeling come over me that told me to buy two Powerball tickets.”

When he checked the winning numbers after Saturday’s drawing, Bald Eagle said, “I was very excited, and I couldn’t sleep. My girlfriend and I checked the numbers again in the morning.”

Once he realized that he had in fact purchased a winning ticket, Bald Eagle began making plans for his prize. He looks forward to being debt free and may purchase a new vehicle, but doesn’t expect to make any major life changes. “I still plan to work at Walmart part time and continue to play in our band,” Bald Eagle said.

Even with his win, Bald Eagle said he will continue to purchase lottery tickets every week. As Bald Eagle puts it, “You can’t win if you don’t play.”
