Rapid City man charged with illegal possession of a firearm

Mgn GavelRAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.

United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced Tuesday that 26-year-old Caleb Waukechon, who was indicted on June 23, pleaded not guilty to the indictment on July 18. If convicted, Waukechon faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The United States Department of Justice reports that Waukechon knowingly possessed a Glock .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol in November 2021 in Rapid City and is also an unlawful user of a controlled substance.

Waukechon’s trial date is scheduled for September 20.
