Rapid City man arrested in triple assault case, charged with murder after victim dies


RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Police Department has located and taken into custody Allac ‘AJ’ Dismounts Thrice, a suspect in an assault that later became deadly.

According to Community Relations Officer for the RCPD, Brendyn Medina, at around 4:30 p.m. on September 3, Dismounts Thrice was called in as a suspicious subject in Box Elder who was seen entering vehicles and storage sheds on private property.

The Box Elder Police Department was able to detain Dismounts Thrice, who refused to identify himself. The responding Box Elder Police Department officers noticed Allac matched the description of the suspect from the E. Monroe St. assault, and officers from the Rapid City Police Department and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene and confirmed his identity.

Shortly after Dismounts Thrice was taken into custody, law enforcement was informed one the victims from the E. Monroe St. assault, 39-year-old Richard Montanez of Rapid City, died due to injuries sustained as a result of the assault.

The two other victims remain in critical condition with life threatening injuries. Dismounts Thrice is currently in the Pennington County Jail and charged with one count of 1st degree murder and two counts of attempted 1st degree murder.

The Rapid City Police Department and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the assault and are monitoring the status of the other two victims.  Anyone with any information regarding this homicide and assault should contact police at 394-4131.  An anonymous tip can also be sent by texting the letters ‘RCPD’ and the information to 847411.
