EYEWITNESS VIDEO: RCPD pulls shooting victim to safety, suspect arrested
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Police responded to a report of several gunshots heard in the area of Willsie Avenue and Adams Street around 11 p.m. on November 12.
Police found a male subject lying in the driveway of a residence in the 200 block of Adams Street with a gunshot wound when they arrived.
At the time, it was unknown where the shooter was, so police dragged the injured male to a safer location where he could receive treatment from an arriving medical unit. The injured male was transported to the hospital for the treatment of his serious injuries.
When police worked to clear the residence, a male subject exited the house. He was identified as 39-year-old Casey Brasgalla of Rapid City, and Brasgalla was detained and transported to the RCPD’s Criminal Investigation Division to be interviewed.
Police determined that Brasgalla had shot the male subject with a shotgun after the male had fired a handgun outside of the residence.
The injured male was found to be in possession of the handgun when he was contacted by law enforcement, and police located the involved shotgun inside the Adams Street residence and determined it to be stolen. A sawed-off shotgun was also located in the house, along with a number of drug items.
At the conclusion of the interview, Brasgalla was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled weapon, possession of stolen firearms, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
