Rapid City man arrested for reckless discharge of a firearm

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Gunshots were heard at a North Maple Avenue apartment complex, leading to an arrest on Thursday morning.

On August 5, Rapid City Police were dispatched to 1721 N. Maple Avenue at 4:40 a.m. for a report of gunshots heard in the area. Police were unable to locate anyone responsible for the gunfire at that time and no injuries were reported as a result.

However, on Friday, August 6, the RCPD was made aware of a video on social media that showed the suspect, identified as Huya Smoke of Rapid City, firing a handgun. Detectives went back to the apartment complex and located Smoke, 19.

Smoke was placed under arrest for an unrelated case and was transported to the RCPD’s Criminal Investigation Division to speak with detectives.

At the conclusion of the interview, Smoke was placed under arrest for Reckless Discharge of a Firearm for the August 5 incident and was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
